ASF Book Discussion Series - Fall/Winter Quarter

Date:
Tuesday, October 19, 2021 - 12:00pm
Location:

via zoom - participants will receive a calendar invite post RSVP.

ASF invites our members to join our Fall/Winter book discussion series on Stanford English professor Chang-Rae Lee’s My Year Abroad.

Publisher Riverhead Books writes, “From the award-winning author of Native Speaker and On Such a Full Sea, an exuberant, provocative story about a young American life transformed by an unusual Asian adventure – and about the human capacities for pleasure, pain, and connection.” Reviews describe the novel as “a manifesto to happiness—the one found when you stop running from who you are” (New York Times Book Review) and “an extraordinary book, acrobatic on the level of the sentence, symphonic across its many movements—and this is a book that moves…” (Vogue).

This is a great opportunity for members to connect and learn with each other. We hope you will find it rewarding and intellectually stimulating to participate in the ASF Book Club. Our first meeting will take place on Monday, October 18, 2021 from 12-1 pm, when we will discuss chapters 1-9. The following two meeting dates will be announced later, with the second meeting taking place in November (chapters 10-18) and the third meeting taking place in January 2022 (chapters 19-27.) Feel free to join all three or just one.

If you’d like to join our book discussion groups, please sign up at https://tinyurl.com/ASFBookClub2021 to receive the Zoom meeting details. Participants are expected to obtain their own copy of the book.
